Have you ever been scrolling through social media and thought to yourself, “dang, I wish I could be as confident and secure as her. No matter what she’s wearing or doing she looks comfortable in her own skin.”

Ever wondered what her secret is?

She’s successful, happy and excels and everything she does. She feels fulfilled by her life. At least she appears that way.

We all know who you’re talking about. You can’t help but think, “why does she have it all together, when I just can’t seem to get it right?”

Reality is that she doesn’t really have it all together. I know this because I’ve coached her.

She’s human, just like you.
She’s on a journey, just like you.

It’s doesn’t matter who you are, what size you are or what size you want to be. It doesn’t matter if you’re single, married, divorced, a mom, want to be a mom or never want a family. It doesn’t matter if you’re successful or still looking for your place in this world. There’s something inside everyone that screams “I want to be like her!!”

It’s easy to think that everyone is doing so much better than you. It’s easy to believe that SHE is doing so much better than you. In a world that shares highlight reels, most conversation is only an inch deep and a mile wide.

Eventually, if you want to improve, you have to get honest with yourself….no matter who you are…and you might have get a little vulnerable.

That girl you’re comparing yourself to is really no different than you.

At one point she had the same choice to make as you do: “stop spinning my wheels or continue searching for that quick fix”. She stopped searching. She realized that everyone she’d been idolizing wasn’t any different than her.

You see, we are all imperfect, chaotic and beautiful in our own way. We all have hopes and fears, jobs and families, jeans that are a bit too tight and food that might be rotting in the fridge. We were all created by the same God who has great purpose for us….if we allow Him to show us.

The sooner we realize REAL LIFE isn’t what we see on TV or on social media, the sooner we can start becoming our own versions of “her”.

You might be asking, “but how?”

Check out these 5 steps in becoming the best version of YOU:

Step 1: Adjust your expectations

You CAN regain control of your life and your habits. You CAN manage your responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed. You CAN control your emotional eating patterns. In fact, you can even build a body that you’re proud of and you enjoy taking care of.

I’ll be honest though, becoming as lean as those ladies on the covers of magazines is a different story. We go into detail about what this might take in our FREE Become Fit Me Forever eCourse. Bottom line, it takes sacrifice. Sacrifice, that you might not be ready, willing or able to take. And that’s ok because the people you see on the covers of magazines or on Instagram are not “everyone else”. Most of us are not like “her”.

Create a realistic expectation for what YOUR body can accomplish.

Step 2: Find a new source of inspiration

How about someone realistic? Find a real person you know  – like the girl at church who serves the coffee. She’s always energetic and spunky, greeting everyone as they come through the door. Or your neighbor who is always out in her yard working in the morning and then in the driveway playing with her kids in the afternoon. How does she have all that energy? What advice could she give you?

When you are able to observe who’s around you and shift your perspective a bit to “progress not perfection”, “a little bit better today” and “let me try it out”  – your progress will begin to pick up pace.

Focus on real life behaviors that result in real life results. Small tidbits of health, fitness and wellness practices that you can ACTUALLY do… right now.

Step 3: Learn to accept your flaws

Ouch, we don’t like messing up do we? But, ya know what? It’s going to happen. So, when it does, what do you do?

When you work with an OMNI FIT coach you might hear phrases like:

  • “Don’t worry about being perfect. Mess up a little bit.”
  • “Experience that feeling of discomfort”
  • “You are normal. You are not alone. Let me introduce you to others who’ve felt like this too”

You might also hear some questions like:

  • “Explain the difficult part? Is there a way you can simplify that a bit?”
  • “What does it feel like to experience the discomfort?”
  • “What ways can you dig a bit deeper?”

The trick is to not crash and burn at the moment of mess-up. This comes from learning how to NOT  “throw in the towel” just because things got a little uncomfortable.

Step 4: Find an alternate route

There isn’t a one size fits all. What works for your friend might not work for you. Find an alternate route.

Ask for help if you need it.

For example…

Do you have a community to support your healthy lifestyle? Reach out in our free FIT ME FOREVER Facebook group and connect with like-minded people who are changing they way they think about what’s possible.

Maybe you’re an avid runner and you’ve heard strength training is what you need in order to change your body’s shape.  If you’re not sure where to start, just ask! We have free resources and a network of ladies who would love to help!

Bottom line, you’re not alone. You just have to branch out and ask for help if you need it. Every single person has to do this…. yes, even “her”.

Keep in mind, in order to ask for help or find an alternate route you have to recognize where you are right now. You have to accept things as they are. Once you do that, then you can embrace those small changes and celebrate small improvements over time.

Step 5: Don’t settle

Of course, it’s ok to not feel ok every day. None of us are 100% ok all the time. But, don’t ignore some warning signs your body might be trying to tell you like:

  • Chronic pain or stiffness
  • Chronic digestive issues (constipation, gas, bloating, diarrhea)
  • Chronic sleep deprivation or low quality sleep
  • Lack of a menstrual cycle (if you should be having one regularly)
  • Chronic depression or anxiety
  • Frequent disordered eating patterns or emotional eating episodes
  • Chronic lack of energy

Sometimes these warning signs are not “ok”. They are exactly what we need in order to propel us into change that will help us create the freedom we truly desire.

Evaluate where you are and how you feel. Does something need to change?

Everyone has to do this… especially when we first start out. Yes, even “her”.
