So, I have mentioned in previous blogs that I’m not a HUGE fan of writing, but since taking my business 100% online in Jan 2011 I have had to learn a few tough lessons. One of them is that my virtual clients don’t get to really know me. That’s unfortunate because I consider myself pretty awesome…LOL…No, really though! I LOVE my job! I honestly always have. So, I want to use a portion of this blog to share more of my personality, my views on particular topics, rants and anything else that may come to my mind so you guys can get to know me a little more…
I know it’s posted in the About Me section of the site, but I feel the need to repeat this. I have been training clients since Feb 2002. Currently, that is 11 years!! I was a kid (still am to many in this industry) when I started my career. I didn’t know at the time that it was even going to be my career. I was just worried about gas money and a flexible schedule. LOL But over the years I have fallen in love with my position as a coach, mentor, personal trainer and under paid therapist. (you trainers out there know what I’m talking about). I have trained clients for so long that they’ve met their spouses, had babies, celebrated anniversaries and even watched me get engaged and get married. Being a personal trainer isn’t only about what happens in the gym. The most successful clients allow me to be a part of their lives. They are friends! Many remain friends long after we stop training together. That’s how the idea of virtual training began. I was at my first gym for 3 years. I grew up at that gym. Graduating to a better opportunity meant traveling 45min away (without traffic) and that just wouldn’t work for many of my clients. So we had to part ways. Some tried to make the trip, but going to the gym needs to be convenient. It doesn’t make sense to drive that far to workout 4-6 times a week! It was so sad starting over. I was glad to have the opportunity, but it was one of the hardest decisions I had made at that point in my life. I am a creature or habit and I LOVE being comfortable….I’m not a huge fan of any kind of change (just ask my lovely husband haha). Any ways, fast forward to Jan 2010….I had another great opportunity to work from a new location. It was much closer to my new home and it gave me quite a bit of independence from the gym. BUT, I had to leave many clients behind AGAIN. =( So, I thought about the whole virtual training thing. Didn’t really have any idea how to do it, but I am a learn as you go type person anyways so, I created K. Dunc LLC. It wasn’t until Jan 2012 that I was forced to go 100% online because my husband and I moved out of the state. That’s when I decided to dive head first into making virtual training WORK! So, here I am. =)
God’s way is perfect. All the Lord ’s promises prove true. (Psalms 18:30 NLT)
Today, I was just reflecting on all that God has proven to me…. I look back on my journey and vividly remember wanting particular things. I remember being unsatisfied and desiring more that what I had. It wasn’t until I put forth deliberate effort to align my wants with God’s wants that I stopped focusing so much on what I didn’t have and was able to be thankful for what I do have. The whole time He knew what would be most pleasing to me and that is what he provided. Now, obviously this can be an on going struggle, but I’ve chosen to surround myself with people that are like minded and remind me of how the Lord’s promises hold true TODAY!
I am ridiculously thankful for the fact that technology exists so that clients from all over the world can learn to live healthier lifestyles using my services. And the best part is that there is no reason for it to end!
I’m sure I will share more about my philosophies and techniques in a later post. I hope someone feels encouraged by this post today. If you did, let me know in the comments below!
